We are currently working with our ISPs on mitigating a large-scale attack which is affecting all of our services.
Update :
Our network became the target of a large-scale volumetric DDoS attack. We began receiving high volumes of malicious traffic originating from thousands of locations around the world.
Rather than targeting individual servers or IP addresses, the attack was distributed across our entire network address space, affecting all of our redundant upstream Internet connections.
Shortly before the attack began, we received an extortion demand consistent with a campaign that has targeted several U.S. service providers in recent weeks.
The attack affected all of our VoIP and Web Control Panel services.
Because the network saturation occurred upstream of our infrastructure, filtering the traffic at our network edge was not possible. Likewise, remote-triggered blackholing was not a viable mitigation strategy because the attack was distributed across our entire address space.
In addition, standard automated DDoS protection systems were ineffective against this attack pattern because each traffic source generated only a relatively small volume of traffic, making automated detection and blocking ineffective.
We are continuing to work closely with our upstream providers to identify, mitigate, and block the malicious traffic before it reaches our network. We will continue monitoring the situation and implementing additional mitigation measures as needed.
We will provide further updates as soon as more information becomes available.
Thank you for your patience and understanding.
